How to use the carbon hydro printing kit for plastic parts
Today Hydra Water Transfer Printing blog let's explain how to use the carbon fiber hydroprint kit. You want to know more? Keep reading and don't miss a thing!
Specifically, we have selected the gold carbon fiber hydroprinting kit. This kit contains the following hydroprinting materials:
- 1 polyvinyl paper activator by water transfer in 400ml aerosol.
- 1 basic instruction manual.
- 2 square meters (50x400cm) of the Gold Carbon fiber film (HFC-098)
- 1 black spray paint of 400ml for base or background.
- 1 transparent gloss varnish spray 400ml.
- 1 fine sandpaper.
- 1 18mm masking tape.
- 10 medium-sized powdered latex gloves.
- 1 disposable mask.
- 1 digital thermometer.
- 1 universal primer (for grip on plastics, wood and metals)
Let's go step by step, ready? We started!
SANDING AND DEGREASING
In the first place and once the pieces have been disassembled, we must clarify their surface, for which we will use the abrasive sponge or sandpaper. Once the pore is open, we will wipe it with alcohol to degrease and remove any fine particles that have been created in the sanding process.
It is time to ensure good adherence to our work. To do this, we must apply a primer corresponding to the material we are treating. In our case, since the material is plastic, we will apply a coat of white universal primer.
Once primed and after about 15 minutes, we will apply the most appropriate background color for our design. In this case the design is the HFC-098 carbon fiber hydro printing sheet, which is a golden carbon fiber, to which we must apply the black background that comes in the hydroprinting kit. One hand is enough, but always making sure that we have covered the entire surface.
We must select a container in which we can put the objects to be decorated without problem, so that we have enough slack on the sides. The top surface of the water should be approximately 25 degrees Celsius. Thanks to thermometer that includes the hydroprinting kit we will have the temperature controlled.
PREPARING THE SHEET
We will place the hydro-printing film roll on a dry surface and we will unroll it until we have a sufficient sheet surface to be able to wrap our piece, but that is slightly smaller than the water surface of our container. Next we will cut said surface with a cutter.
Once the sheet is cut, we will use the masking tape to make a frame composed of 4 strips glued together at the corners, so that the sheet fits perfectly inside the frame, therefore We must make the frame a little bigger than the sheet (1cm on each side).
POSITIONING THE FRAME AND SHEET
At this point we will place the frame by gluing the ends of the strips to the walls of our container, and then we will place the sheet inside the frame. If there is any strip, we must place one on top quickly.
We must place the hdroimpresión sheet slowly and from corner to corner to avoid bubbles inside the masking tape frame and wait 90 seconds for the sheet to hydrate completely. We will take advantage of this time to put on the gloves and mask.
After 90 seconds, we apply the activator, about 15 or 20 cm away. A light stroke is usually sufficient. After this, the hydroprint sheet should be completely crystalline, like a mirror. If not, an even lighter coat should be applied, until the mirror effect is achieved.
Finally, the funniest moment has arrived!, The moment of the truth. We submerge the piece slowly and continuously, always at an angle of 30 to 60 degrees, which allows the air to be expelled and no bubbles form.
We must sink the object to be decorated completely, so that the ink from the watertransfer film reaches all the corners of the piece.
Once all of it is submerged, we carefully extract it from the container, and let the ink rest for 2 minutes, so that it anchors to the black background that we previously applied.
It is necessary to wash the piece to remove the gel that has formed in the immersion and allow it to continue the adhesion process. To do this, the piece must be washed with shower water.
Attention! Do not pass your hand instantly to remove the gel layer. Wait for it to come off with shower water until it is completely eliminated and let the adhesion process progress. After a minute after the immersion and while you continue washing, you can gently feel with your fingertips the areas of the surface where there is still gel, until you do not find any gel on the piece. Avoid applying too much pressure with the water on the piece.
The varnishing of the piece is one of the most important steps, since it will allow to prolong the protection and durability of the piece. Can be applied glossy varnish o matt varnish depending on your needs. A high quality product will give your piece a unique, durable and professional finish. Apply at least two coats, according to the varnish manufacturer's instructions.
